29/05/2012 - SECTARIZACIÓN DE LA EDUCACIÓN
by BRussells Tribunal

29/05/2012 - MILLIONS IN GLOBAL AID FOR IRAQ SITS UNSPENT
by Lara Jakes

BAQOUBA, Iraq (AP) — Outside the crumbling elementary school, goats feed on trash strewn across the front yard. Inside, the ceiling is rotting, toilets don’t work and students scrunch hip-to-hip behind narrow desks.
Millions of dollars in international aid to build and repair Iraq’s dilapidated schools have for years gone unspent. Now, Iraq’s government risks losing the funding as the World Bank weighs whether some of it would be better used elsewhere.

23/05/2012 - SECTARIANIZING UNIVERSITY EDUCATION
by BRussells Tribunal

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Studies in Iraq issued a decree changing the curriculum of Islamic studies in the history colleges of the public universities in Iraq. The change is highly politicized; reviving political conflict that goes back more than 14 centuries ago, the last thing Iraq needs now. Academics argue about all kinds of things, there is no problem with that, in fact it is a healthy phenomenon. But imposing a certain reading of ancient historical events that are highly sensitive is another matter; it aims at nothing else other than adding more fuel to fire, and contributes to creating and deepening divisions among the Iraqi people. The question remains in whose interest that is, and why the Iraqi government is doing it now. While Iraqi universities suffer from lack of sources, books and documents are drained, labs are empty of equipments, professors are assassinated, threatened, arrested, and hushed thus fleeing the country, and on top of all that the government creates yet another big problem.

22/05/2012 - Testimonio de un profesor iraquí:
by Eman A. Khamas

by Dr. Souad Al-Azzawi

EDUCATION IN IRAQ IS CONTROLLED BY THE IGNORANT
This is a testimony of a professor who has spent almost four decades in one of Baghdad public universities, and who agreed to write the testimony on one condition: that it is published under a pseudonym. 6/05/2012 - THE ELIMINATION OF IRAQ’S INTELLECTUAL ELITE: a never ending story.
by Dr. Souad Al-Azzawi

WHAT THE PROMINENT IRAQI ACADEMICS ARE STILL GOING THROUGH AFTER NINE YEARS OF OCCUPATION - MAY 2012
Today the EDUCIDE is still a harsh reality in Iraq. Therefore we will continue to insist upon the introduction of this word in the international dictionary of crimes. EDUCIDE is a composite of education and genocide to refer to the genocide of the educated segments of the Iraqi society. It can only be hoped that both the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court will pursue the question of possible educide in Iraq.
